What is a Transdisciplinary Faculty Discussion Lecture?
Faculty members from a variety of disciplines facilitate discussions on specific themes and share their perspectives in unique TMI lectures. Themes have included “what is inclusive mobility?”, “the present and future of community busing in the area” and “chain of issues during mobility challenges”. Then discussions beyond disciplinary boundaries are conducted in a lecture format. A team of students collaborates with faculty members to plan and host a transdisciplinary discussion lecture, providing opportunities for students to actively learn. In addition, providing information about the lecture in advance creates an opportunity for active participation and opinion exchanges on the day of the lecture. By participating in cross-disciplinary discussions, including social implementations, students recognize existing conflicts among stakeholders, gain an understanding from different perspectives, and develop multifaceted thinking abilities.
